Lately I was invited to more than one event about entrepreneurship and innovation, those events had a lot of people in the IT field attending them. All were discussing an issue that companies’ owner are facing in Jordan, one of those attendees was the Reuters’ reporter in Jordan. The issue simply is that our man power is “ESCAPING” from Jordan seeking a better opportunity mainly in the gulf so that we are lacking the experience.
I have been asked a question by Reuters’ reporter about the situation worldwide and why Jordan is a better place for me to stay, as I personally refused to leave the country from day one as I feel the potential here in Amman. Basically I explained my point of view about it, thinking that the ideal life I’m living is similar to anyone who is in my age and experience.
Well, I was completely mistaken, I don’t know if the opportunity I found is a different one or I’m a different person who really worth it. I figured out that what I have is something that rarely happens here in Jordan. After what I heard from my fellows who work at many “Jordanian Typical Companies” I can say that if those people wouldn’t leave the country, they will stay forever at the same place as finding a better opportunity is not easy at all if all of those companies have the same policy that I call “Jordanian Corporate Identity”
What policy that I’m talking about? putting the salaries issue aside. Let’s take a look on how the management of a “Jordanian Typical Company” deals with the employees. Starting with 8:30AM issue, I used to face that problem when I worked at another company before. I had to be on my desk at 8:30 and I HAD to stay up to NO LIMITS if there was some work that need to be done before leaving, regardless the leave paper that I signed in the morning because I was there at 8:45AM. Facebook, YouTube, MSN… etc, I don’t remember that there is any part of my contract says that I’m in a jail that prevents me from doing any socializing, and I don’t think that there is anyone in this world can work on something for 8 hours without wasting any second here or there, make sure that if you give your employees what they want you will get their loyalty so no need to put any restrictions on them as they will work for you because they love their work. Those are stupid points?! OK, let’s move to a serious one.
What about an employee who worked for 2 years on the same routine without even giving him the chance to expose himself or to give the best of what he has because you are afraid that it would waste a little bit of your precious time, hey people; slaving era has gone since ages. Business owner, do you know that your money means nothing without those people you have at your firm?! Do you know that your people are your strength and without them you can do nothing?! Apparently not.
Now I’m giving the excuse to anyone who is doing his best to find a job outside of Jordan, in a country where he can get the appreciation for what he does. So now it’s obvious why they were complaining about it, and I wish that they will never find the right person until they try do a change that identity.

Well kamel, It totally makes sense, and i agree that managers and business owners should look outside the box, i know many people that fid their work interesting but hate the way things go on, if office life was better , and more open to relaxed atmospheres , i believe that employees would produce more efficient work and that their employers would gain the loyalty each employee should give.
