What does Queen Rania think about Akhtaboot?

Filed under: Life, Technology — Kamel Al-Asmar @ 12:40 am

In its 41st issue, Jordan Business magazine (May 2008) contains 8 pages of an interesting interview with Her Majesty Queen Rania in addition to an article about her.

The subjects of the interview varied to include most of the recent Jordanian cases; Her Majesty’s initiative “Madrasati”, that focuses on the development of the public schools, was the first subject of the interview, then she talked about the Public Private Partnership model (PPP) and the plans to achieve the sustainability of that partnership. Gender equality, women participation and honor crimes were a part of the discussion.

The next section was a question about Queen Rania’s channel on YouTube that has been launched to help in breaking stereotypes and the role the Arab media and the moderates in this mission. She said “That’s what I’m trying to do with YouTube – get people setting around a virtual table where we’re all connecting, asking questions, exchanging knowledge and where we’re creating networks based on trust, tolerance and acceptance.”

As an answer to a question about the Internet experience in Jordan; she talked about that usage of the new media trends and how much it’s encouraging in such countries that don’t have a very high Internet penetration. She mentioned Maktoob as one of the top-visited incorporate blogging elements in Jordan, as well she talked about the new initiatives that are adapting concepts to our Internet and cultural needs, her examples were Ikbis, toot and Akhtaboot that are generating creativity and job growth.

Talking about what Jordan is going through with the existence of traditions and modernity and the ways to bridge this dichotomy; Her Majesty said that modernity shouldn’t mean letting of our value system.

The lack of research and development in the region, in addition to discussing the bases of creating a knowledge-based, idea generating society, and the corporate social responsibility were the last three subjects of the interview.

I encourage you all to read that interesting interview.
